Find your pension
Let’s find your pension info
It’s not always easy keeping track of pensions, especially if you’ve moved jobs a few times. We can help you track down the info you need.
What kind of pension is it?

Workplace Pension
(set up through an employer)
I know the name of my pension provider
If you know the name of the pension provider, ask them for:
- Your unique account number (or plan number)
- What type of pension it is
- The current value and transfer value of your pension (they could be different)
- The benefits it will provide, and when
- Whether it provides any special or safeguarded benefits
- The costs or charges you pay them to manage your account
- What charges they’ll make if you transfer your pension
If you call them then some pension providers will send that info to the postal or email address they hold for you. Some will ask you to write to them, so here’s an example letter to get you started.
Tip: If you’ve changed your name or address you’ll need to give them the details first, so they can check it’s you and update their records.
I don't know the name of my pension provider
If you don’t know the name of the pension provider, you will need to contact your employer.
They’ll either give you your pension info, or put you in touch with the pension provider. It will help to give them the dates that you worked for them and your payroll or national insurance number.
If you call them then they may send that info to the postal or email address they hold for you. Some will ask you to write to them, so here’s an example letter to get you started.
Tip: Try contacting the HR or payroll officer, if there is one.
If you don’t know how to contact my employer:
Try searching for them online.
- See if they have a website with an up-to-date address or phone number
- Check for news about a takeover or change of name
- A Companies House search will tell you whether the company still exists, give you the company address and details of the directors
If you’re still in touch with old colleagues, they might be able to help too.
If the company no longer exists then try the Governments free Pension Tracing Service. They might be able to help you find your pension provider.
