What you need to know

Now that you’re officially an Octopus Money Direct customer, here are some things to consider:

  • The important things haven’t changed

Your account number, investments, charges and the way we manage and protect your money, including FSCS protection (up to £85,000), are all exactly the same.

  • New name, same friendly team

You’ll now see ‘Octopus Money Direct’ in emails, text messages, letters, your online account, and on your payments and withdrawals. But it’s still the same people supporting you.

  • Use your same username and password to sign in

The sign-in button is at the top of this page. Not signed up yet? Register for Online Service.

  • The Octopus Money Direct app

If your device has auto updates enabled, your app will update automatically. If you don’t have auto updates switched on, you’ll be prompted to update it when you open it. It works exactly the same way as the Virgin Money Investments app and you’ll sign in with the same details and PIN. Not got the app? Download it now.

Your welcome letter confirms that updated Terms and a new Privacy Policy now apply, reflecting the change of company name. You can find them in the Product Information section of your Documents in Online Service, or you can view them here:

Why can't I see emails from you?

We’re aware some customers are missing emails from us as they’re landing in the junk folder. If you think you might be affected, please follow these steps:

  • Check your junk or spam folder
  • Mark any messages from us as “Not junk”
  • Add octopusmoneydirect.com to your Safe Senders list. To do this for Microsoft Outlook read more here, and for Google Gmail read more here.

How do I sign in to Online Service?

Choose ‘Sign in’ at the top of this page. You can then use the same username and password you used for the Virgin Money investments and pensions Online Service. If you don’t remember them, you can reset them when you sign in. 

What if I have a problem using the Octopus Money Direct app?

The Virgin Money Investments app is now rebranded as the Octopus Money Direct app. It works the same way as before and you’ll sign in with the same details and PIN. If your device has auto updates enabled, your app should have updated automatically. If you don’t have auto updates switched on, you’ll be prompted to update it when you open it. Not got the app? I can’t sign in to Online Service – what can I do?

Call us on 03455 28 88 88 (outside UK +44 1256 58 80 00). We’re here 8am-9pm, Monday to Friday, and 9am-6pm on Saturdays. 

How has my account been affected by this change?

Most things will stay the same, including charges and your account number, but you’ll notice a few changes to names and branding. You can find more details in the letter we sent you in November. Are there any changes to my investments or investment funds? 

From 1 December our funds will have Octopus names, but there are no changes to the way they work, or how they invest.

Are there any changes to Direct Debit payments? 

There’s no change to Direct Debit amounts or collection days. The only change is that payments after 1 December 2025 show as Octopus Money on the payer’s bank statement.

Is my money still FSCS protected?

Yes. Your money is managed and protected by the FSCS (Financial Services Compensation Scheme) up to £85,000. 

I'm in the middle of transferring an ISA or pension. What happens now?

Your transfer will continue as planned. There’s no need to do anything, unless you’ve changed your mind about transferring. 

I keep getting letters in the post – can I go paperless?

Yes. Sign in to Online Service and choose ‘Go paperless’ from your home page or profile. We’ll let you know when there’s a new document for you to read.

How is Octopus Money Direct different to Octopus Money?

Octopus Money Direct is the new name for Virgin Money’s investments and pensions business. This new company is part of the Octopus Group, which includes Octopus Money and Octopus Energy. Octopus Money Direct will continue to offer the same investments and pension products and services as Virgin Money did – for customers who’re happy to make their own financial decisions. 
Octopus Money offers a different range of financial services for customers who want a bit of extra help with their money. Their services include expert 1-to-1 financial planning and advice (additional charges may apply). 

Will you make any big changes?

In the future, we’d love to make things even better. But we won’t rush anything. First, we want to hear what matters most to you. If you have ideas or feedback already, we’d love to hear them. Just use this form to share your thoughts. 

Can I still manage my account by phone / post?

Yes, if you opened your account before 1 January 2023, you can call or write to us if you wish. If you send us a cheque, remember to make it payable to Octopus Money Direct.

However, it’s quicker and safer to use Online Service – visit the register page for info.

What if I don’t want to stay with Octopus Money Direct?

We really hope you’ll choose to stay with Octopus Money Direct, but you can always transfer your account to another provider at any time. For a Stocks and Shares ISA or Investment Account you could also withdraw your money to close your account.  
However, you should consider the tax implications. You may be subject to Capital Gains Tax on withdrawals from your Investment Account. You’ll also lose the tax-efficient status of money withdrawn from your ISA unless you transfer it directly into another ISA. 

Will I be able to get financial advice from Octopus Money?

Yes. You can speak to Octopus Money experts for 1-to-1 financial planning and advice (additional charges may apply). 

* Octopus as at March 2025. Funds Under Management data includes undrawn commitments, funds under advisory mandates and funds monitored, and is based upon the latest information available at the time of the calculation. The figure includes Octopus Investments, Octopus AIF Management and Octopus Investments Australia. 

Calls to 03 numbers cost the same as calls to 01 or 02 numbers and they’re included in inclusive minutes and discount schemes in the same way. Calls may be monitored and recorded.
